10 Signs You May Have the Wrong Workers Compensation Lawyer

Posted by James Aspell | Mar 02, 2023 | 0 Comments

Did you hire the wrong lawyer for your Connecticut work injury claim? Your medical bills are piling up, and you're probably wondering if you'll ever return to work. You need a lawyer who cares about you, is competent, and will fight to get you the compensation you deserve. But how do you know if you've hired the right lawyer? Here are 10 signs that you haven't:

  1. Lack of communication: Does your lawyer keep you in the dark, leaving you confused and unsure of what's going on with your case? That's not right.

  2. Lack of respect: If other lawyers and court staff don't seem to like your lawyer, it's probably not a good sign.

  3. Unclear billing: You should know what you're paying for. If you're getting vague bills or being charged for things that weren't done, it's time to find a new lawyer.

  4. Outright lying: A good lawyer is honest with you, even if the news is bad. If your lawyer isn't forthcoming or outright lies to you, it's time to go.

  5. Your case is being handled by paralegals: Paralegals are supposed to assist your lawyer, not handle the case. If you're communicating mainly with the paralegal, it's time to find a new lawyer.

  6. Your benefits suddenly stop: Your lawyer missed a deadline or failed to submit requested documents. Don't let your lawyer hurt your case like that.

  7. Your lawyer won't file other claims: Sometimes, there are other claims you can file, but your lawyer won't explain why or won't file them. That's not right.

  8. There's been no effort to negotiate a settlement: Most workers' compensation claims are settled out of court. If your lawyer won't talk about settling, it's time to look for a new one.

  9. Your lawyer seems reluctant to go to court: If your case is going nowhere and your lawyer is unwilling to pursue a formal hearing, or they seem to have too many cases to handle, it's time to find a new lawyer.

  10. Your gut tells you to seek different counsel: Sometimes, you just know when something's not right. Trust your instincts and find a new lawyer who will fight for you.

If any of these signs apply to you, it's time to start looking for a new lawyer. Remember, you deserve the best representation possible, so don't settle for anything less.
